What the frack was Captain Kara Thrace (Starbuck) on Battlestar Galactica?

I just finished watching the show, and I didn't understand what happened to her, how she ressurected, or anything else. I have a feeling the show was just going in a corny religious path, but I hope not. It only slightly bothered me that this show combined Roman god names with Greek ones. Or that Gaius was a Noah/Jesus figure, or that the whole storyline of the show turned out to be a modernized retelling of Noah's Ark/Epic of Gilgamesh. I would like a more satisfactory answer than "The Admiral was the father, Lee was the son, and Starbuck was the Holy Spirit."
