Which camera should I get?

I am saving up for a good camera. I don't want a simple camera with limited features. I am looking for a camera that's upwards of $400, but less than $600. I found two cameras that I am interested in, so please help me decide which one to get. I'm interested in the Nikon d3000 ($465) and the Sony DSCHX100 ($400). I don't know which one to get. The Sony camera has really good reviews, but it isn't a DSLR camera like the Nikon. I have heard really good things about the nikon and have actually tried it out before, but it's more expensive and it's $500 when not on sale. So do you think I should go for the Sony or the Nikon camera? Thanks!
